Simply named Avenue 31 on the Avenue Princesse Grace in Monaco, this Italian restaurant packs a punch in the quality of food.

It is simplicity that is at the heart of Avenue 31, with a large sprinkling of sophistication.

From the moment you walk in, the restaurant oozes Italian style. We loved the strong blue hues on the furniture complimented and enhanced by the natural stone effect of the walls, the quirky lights and most of all the terrace, which is simply beautiful. This is a cool and trendy venue that eschews the ostentation that is often found in Monaco.

The first mention will go to the (exotic) cocktails at Avenue 31. If the owner had decided to open a cocktail bar instead, no doubt it would have been extraordinarily successful. We degustated the Alexander, The Pina Colada and the Espresso Martini. All of these exquisite cocktails striked a careful balance between alcoholic intensity and delicious tastes. We would definitely recommend the bar as one of THE best in Monaco.

Our starters were the Sea Bass ceviche with violet asparagus and Kale salad with raisins and pine nuts. The sea bass was noteable for the delicate balance of flavours between the tangy, citrus, delicate morsels of fish and the light asparagus. The salad was equally delicious: a tantalising melange of sweet and savoury intermingling with an almost perfumed salad.

Our main, course, however, was the piece de resistance!

The Costata Porterhouse

The organic fiorentina steak was, aside from a veritable feast, mouth-wateringly delicious. Not for the faint hearted, this is a wholesome MEATY meal! 10/10 for presentation as well as for the perfect cooking execution (we had asked for a rare steak, and it was delivered). The steak, quality aside, was made even more delicious by the garnishes around it and the incredible and very moreish mash potato that accompanies it.

Absolutely a must have!

Our dessert, was equally impressive, although how we managed it remains a mystery….

We tried the Glace du Jour “Minute” & Friandises (Pour 2), an exquisite smorgasbord of chocolate and ice cream delights. A sweet-toothers’ paradise!

In short, we loved the simplicity and sophistication of the venue and meals where quality speaks for itself. Definitely one to try when in Monaco.
