The Berkeley Hotel is an iconic landmark in Knightsbridge, known for its chic and elegant interiors, with a clientele to match. With its Michelin starred restaurant, Koffman’s, its seductive Blue Bar, a first class spa boasting 360 degree views over London, and irresistibly comfortable rooms, – oh, and its unbeatable location! – its easy to see why it has become a firm favourite for the indulgent and discerning traveller.
What is the first thing that anybody does when entering their suite? Throw themselves on the bed, of course! And that is exactly what we did. We award 5 stars for the unrivalled comfort factor of the beds to the Berkeley. For, despite our late return, we had a deliciously undisturbed sleep, courtesy of the plush pillows and soft but sturdy mattress.
The rooms breathe elegance and could be classified as apartments in their own right. Vast in size, the room is a labyrinthine organization of life: there is the elongated corridor, the living room space; the balcony; the bed area; a separate walk-in wardrobe and a fabulously large bathroom, rivaled in size only by Le Bristol in Paris.
And – one would expect no less – there are two TV’s to accommodate the expanse of space between the living room and bed area. Or at least to pamper (and anticipate) every and each whim.
Spa
Onto the spa!
With a patio-style outside relaxation area and a veritable Grecian empyrean oasis that is the pool, the spa beckons you to just…relax. Aside from the top notch service and the cool views, we loved the roof which rolled out, sheltering us loungers from the impending rain.
The Blue Bar
Alcohol aficionado’s have nothing to complain about here. We’ve tried (on different occasions) a chilled Puligny-Montrachet, a salubrious and salty margarita – myriad different concoctions, and they are all superb. Accompanied by tasty nuts, olives and whatnots, this is definitely the pre-dinner stop. We love the breezy blue interior which seems to dissipate one’s actual blues into a state of delightful reverie.
Understated, refined and chic – The Berkeley is definitely the choice hotel when visiting London.
