I adore boutique hotels because they ooze personalization and character. Stepping into the EastWest Hotel in Geneva confirmed these expectations and a thrill of joy, mingled with curiosity momentarily passed through me.

H+¦tel EastWest-0146 The lighting of the interior illuminates the hotel’s identity. An Orientalist theme permeates the décor, mirroring the name of the Hotel: EastWest.

H+¦tel EastWest-8881Warm red coloured walls are lit up; shimmering, deep, lights expose the cool night found and enjoyed on the trendy terrace outside and a cheerfully bright room waits for my arrival. The décor is sensationally intriguing: wood sculptures line the walls, orchids pop up in every corner and an art deco theme laces the interior design. Walking through the hotel is sensational: every corner turned reveals a new labyrinth of colour and design, leading you on a visually rich journey.

The rooms are very large and smack of comfort: a simple design yet with all those little touches which make a night in a hotel room all that more intimate.  What is slightly bizarre is the open-planned shower which eliminates any notion of privacy in the room. The toilet, thankfully, is compartmentalized in another section of the room. This open-plan area merges fantastically within the minimalist design of the room and the large mirrors by the sink and opposite wall are a fantastic addition. For those who prefer privacy, a screen might be necessary.

The promising menu has a focus on quality, fresh and seasonal produce and is a firm fixture on the gourmand’s tour around Geneva. A sumptuous menu, the choices seem overwhelmingly irresistible. An EastWest Express daily menu is offered for the business crowd but upon seeing the choice and style of cuisine, I’m sure this is the latter choice when dining at the hotel.

H+¦tel EastWest-1197One of the delights of staying at the EastWest hotel is the staff. They are obliging and expertly trained in hospitality. If you’ve forgotten a plug converter, they’ll bring it within minutes of a phone call. The location of this hotel is also marvelous. A short walk from the lake, the hotel is a delightfully discreet get-away from the mania coursing through the streets of Geneva.

What’s refreshing about this charming hotel is its facilities: an open-air patio, fitness room (and sauna), library and private meeting room. The EastWest Hotel never ceased to amaze me during my short stay. Whilst my visit to Geneva was work-based, the flexibility of this hotel allows you to focus on a work-orientated stay or relax in the intriguing surroundings, or, for the truly adventurous, a symbiotic experience with a mellifluous effect on the senses.
