“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”
Casa Verd’Azul is a small B&B establishment a stone’s throw away from the medieval city of Tavira in the Eastern Algarve. In a quiet residential street, this sun-soaked villa has been lovingly converted into 4 spacious sweets, a grand penthouse with sweeping 180 degree views, and a neighbouring cottage.
In fact, the name of this establishment was decided upon immediately after owner Monique Bart’s purchase. Upon seeing the luscious ‘verde’ (green) of the landscape and the ‘azul’ (blue) of the sea, and their ultimate conjointment on the horizon creating a sea of green-blue cadences, Monique’s inspired name was born.
Monique is one of the several ‘power women’ in the area. Ever-ready to offer tips on the surrounding area, this is THE place to use as a base when exploring the Eastern Algarve.
The beauty of staying at Casa Verd’Azul is manifold.
The rooms
We loved the rooms. They were simple, elegant and clean, with up-to-date bathrooms (including power jet showers). The highlights were the small kitchenette, allowing you to prepare meals and the lovely balcony, where you can enjoy your meals watching the sun slowly setting and the Portuguese ‘verd’azul’ that ensconces the horizon-point. The green consists of endless orange trees and bushes – a veritable oasis of land and tranquility.
There is an outside pool with sun umbrellas, allowing you to revel in the serenity of staying here. Or, for the more curious, the lazy and beautiful Santo Estevao town is nearby, and of course Tavira is a short journey away.
Tavira is a charming coastal city in the Eastern Algarve that is loaded with history. With influences from the Roman Empire and Moors, the city is replete with 18th century buildings and grand architectural landmarks and features. An alternative to the cliched Western Algarve, Tavira offers an authentic experience of both the old and new Portuguese way of life.
