The imposing building overlooking the lake is easy to spot and we have visited the bar on a number of occasions.
Our home for the night is a suite on the newly renovated 6th floor, with far reaching views over the water and the surrounding mountain peaks, as well as the city itself.fs2
The loft-style space is indeed reminiscent of a home, with its comfortable sofa opposite a large fireplace, a cinema-style TV screen
and a bathroom that is the same size as the sleeping area. The 6th floor is also home to the new hotel spa which we tried out briefly
before dinner. The devil, as ever, is in the detail and the Swiss excel at their hallmark blend of ultra-chic design and high-tech functionality. Seamlessness and subtlety appear so effortless that one takes them for granted and is only aware of them on a subliminal level.fs1
The hotel itself is decorated in a neo-classical style. Directly opposite the main entrance is a large, lounge-style business centre-cum-meeting space with deep sofas, discreet coffee table lights and a bright central feature, a massive table quite literally laden with white flowers and scented candles.
Countless bunches of white flowers in enormous vases are everywhere, in fact, and clearly a theme.
We are thrilled to have opted for the Italian restaurant Il Lago (there is also a Japanese eatery in the hotel) because that proves to be an experience in its own right)

We loved:
The understated quality that is symbolic of the Swiss, the supremely well-trained staff, the exceptional food, the flower arrangements It is small wonder that the country is a preferred destination for so many affluent Russians who like the orderliness, cleanliness and quiet opulence they cannot necessarily count on at home.
