A more appropriately described luxury hotel than its poorer cousins in Puerto Viejo, the Hotels and Suites Rincon del Valle was a welcome change. A smart, business hotel in the center of San Jose, it is a brilliant bargain (around £60 a night) and is replete with all the modern comforts one could want of a room.
Our only disappointment was that the room we were initially given had not been cleaned. Hair on the bed, used towels…..it’s worth checking this. Once we had complained, we were immediately transferred to a (thankfully) clean room.
The room is spacious and has two ‘melt-in-your-dreams’ beds. Extraordinarily comfortable and clean – there’s nothing more you could ask from a hotel bed. The bathrooms are large, as are the showers, and ample shampoo and conditioner can be used from large dispensers (these are of very high quality, too).
Breakfast is replete with an offering of pretty much everything: bacon and eggs, fresh fruit, fresh pastries, myriad fruit juices etc. The only irksome thing about the hotel was the incessant charging for water and drinks. The charge was up-front (you literally had to pay then and there) and also quite inflated – for the water, at least.
Overall, a good bet in San Jose and one we’d stay in for a night or two again.
