‘Room with a view’ is an apt phrase that many a traveller has undoubtedly used when reviewing Hotel Locanda Vivaldi. The reason being that the hotel boasts one of the most prominent positions on the waterfront near San Marco in Venice.

San Marco, as many of our readers may know, if often considered the (tourist) heartbeat of Venice, comprising many iconic monuments around St. Mark’s Square, including St. Mark’s Basilica, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace.

Hotel Locanda Vivaldi, therefore, is enviably positioned in order to visit some of the most prominent ‘hotspots’ of this beautiful city.

In true Venetian style, the rooms are decorated with padded silk on the walls, creating a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere. The beds are ultra comfortable, and bathrooms replete with all the amenities that you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

The common parts of the hotel are equally stylish. With elements of the ‘modern’ such as the central lift, select art works and the large, airy lobby, the hotel has avoided the fate of many an establishment resting on its laurels and becoming a bit tired. This mild infusion of the contemporary makes your experience at Hotel Locanda Vivaldi both authentic a la Venetienne and functionally stylish.

The piece de resistance for us, however, was the rooftop. The perfect spot to enjoy breakfast or an aperitif, the rooftop boasts views along the Venetian riverside, as well as a side view of the canals. Perched on high, the viewpoint allows guests to watch the world go by, as well as digest some of Venice’s most spectacular views. The idea of dolce far niente – the sweetness of doing nothing – can easily be achieved in this very spot.
