Picture2More than 200 years ago, at the country estate of La Amarilla, near Ronda (Andalucía), an order of nuns began producing olive oil from the fruit of century-old trees.  The oil from these groves, situated just outside one of the most beautiful and emblematic cities of Andalucía and Spain, has always been famous locally for its exceptional quality.

The Gómez de Baeza family, current owners of La Amarilla, made the decision both to keep up the estate’s oil-making tradition and to begin selling its legendary oil for the first time.  LA Organic was born in the 1990s.   As sales increased and olive oil production at La Amarilla became insufficient, LA Organic took as its model the system of pagos asociados, common in the world of wine but unusual in the olive-oil sector.

The Tastemaker Review: Tasting Notes

A distinctive range of designer olive oils from La Amarilla de Ronda, Andalucia, by Philippe Starck and  Michel Rolland, produced from arbequina olives and presented in chic and slim steel containers.

We tasted three oils in the range.

1. The LA Organic Cuisine olive oil is simply the best oil we have ever tasted from the region of Andalucia.

A worthy contender of its great Tuscan cousins, it is an ecologically produced oil that shows a remarkable complexity of flavour. The deep colour is consistent with the purest virgin oil; the initial taste starts mild on the palate but intensifies to subtle spice at the back of the throat.

An oil to eat with freshly baked bread and a pinch of salt or use as a beauty supplement!

2. The LA organic Intense

Fruity and milder than the Organic Cuisine, this has, nevertheless an intense aroma, just as the name suggests. Just a hint of potency on the back of the throat but no eye watering spice. Ideal for fish dishes as it wouldn’t overwhelm but enhance them.

3. The LA organic Suave is, as the name suggest, the mildest in the range. It is fruity and almost sweet.
We used it in porridge and mashed potato with spectacular results as it adds that special olive oil touch without any cloying after-taste.
