Let’s talk about #burgerlove.

If you’ve a predilection for burgers, and especially luxury burgers, then you need look no further than The Hyde Bar at The Park Tower in Knightsbridge, to satisfy your taste buds. The newly launched luxury burger menu comprises of 7 ultra-luxurious spins on the traditional burger; reading the menu alone is enough to start one silently salivating.

The Tastemaker went to go see what the fuss is all about and here we deliver our verdict.

Walking into The Park Tower in Knightsbridge might prepare you for the luxururious assault on your taste buds. The building is imposing and the interior is nothing short of resplendent. The bar is a cool venue. Wood panelled throughout, with intimate seating areas, it is without a doubt one of the best venues in Knightsbridge to indulge in.

The head waiter, Santo, guided us through our #burgerlove initiation, starting with a glass of pink champagne and a Bitters Cherry cocktail for my companion. The cocktail, consiting of orange bitters, cherry brand and glenmorangie 15 years old was anything but bitter: smooth, slightly sweet and fragrant, it was a delicious drink to whet our taste buds.

(A word on the cocktails here: all are superb and we would suggest asking for their recommendations as you won’t be disappointed.)

We were spolit for choice with our burgers and had a smorgasbord of four within the menu, coupled with their whisky counterpart. These were The Luxury Collection (and Suntory Yamazaki 12 year old single malt whisky), The Red and Black Surf & Turf (Glenmorangie 10 year old single malt whisky), The Wilderness (Dalmore 15 year old single malt whisky) and Le Lapin A L’escargot (Glenfiddich 15 year old single malt whisky).

The Luxury Collection burger consisted of sumptuous wagyu beef, white cheddar and heritage tomato, wrapped in a gold leaf bun. The meat was tender yet firm and the quintessence of a luxury burger if ever there was one. The Suntory whisky was sweet and rich – a perfect drink to compliment the dish.

The surf and turf burger comprised a combination of tiger prawn, chicken, ink tapioca and aioli mayo in a red bun. This was one of the top two for us. The burger was succulent, perfectly balanced and a lighter version to meatier options. This was washed down with a complimentary and sharp Glenmorangie whisky, giving the course a dose of chutzpah.

The Wilderness burger featured berkshire venison, double quail egg and cranberry slaw wedged between wild seeds bun. Slightly sweet, the burger served to highlight the best of british ingredients presenting a hearty, meaty option. The Dalmore single malt served to highlight the nuanced flavours seeping through – a stiff whisky with a smooth aftertaste.

Our second top burger was Le Lapin A L’escargot. Rabbit snails, gruyere cheese, garlic butter and a carrot bun point a finger towards french cuisine and boy did it do it justice. Delicately rich, irresisitbly flavoursome, and mouthwateringly moreish, the burger is the epitome of quality. The smooth glenfiddich whisky was almost superfluous to this culinary masterpiece but pleasantly rounded off the incredible burger and whisky experience.
