The Kraken Black Spiced Rum has at last landed in four major UK supermarkets – Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. This follows the drink’s massive success in the USA where it has rapidly become the fastest growing rum brand.
Named after a mythical sea beast, The Kraken is a spiced Caribbean rum aged and enriched with exotic spices including cinnamon, ginger and clove.
Its ominous colour and striking Victorian flagon-style bottle is a reminder of the monster that lends the rum its name – the two glass handles mimic the eyes of the Kraken!
Swirling the rum around a glass creates distinctive tentacle-like drips as the rich liquid seeps back to the depths. The thick, caramel-like, taste lingers long after the last sip. Enjoy the dark pleasures of The Kraken neat over ice, with cola, or in ‘The Perfect Storm’ – a refreshing combination of the black liquid poured over ice, topped with ginger beer and accompanied by two squeezed wedges of lime (see ‘premium’ serve version in Notes to Editors below).
The Kraken has an ABV of 40% and an RRP of £22.99 for a 70cl bottle. It is also available in Harvey Nichols, Majestic Wine, Selfridges and, in Scotland, in Peckham’s Delicatessens.
