Afternoon tea should always be an affair to remember. Fortunately for us, the champagne tea at Flemings Hotel in Mayfair was precisely so.

Tucked away on the small side street that is Half Moon Street, the Flemings Mayfair hotel is an unassuming, elegant gem.

We visited the newly refurbished Drawing Room to sample the luxurious Champagne Afternoon tea. The Drawing Room, bedecked with fresco-like orientalised walls – hand-painted panels depicting early Modern India by de Gournay – and plush velvet blue sofas, is a resplendent and relaxing environment in which to partake of this quintessentially British ceremony. An array of Assouline books line the bookcase and the atmosphere exudes total charm and elegance.

Tea itself is simple but hits the spot: a choice of sandwhiches (salmon, ham, cucumber and egg mayonaise); the famous, fresh British scones, and an indulgent selection of (chocolate) petit fours. What makes this experience so special, however, is the vast and exquisite choice of teas, which are must-trys. We recommend the Bombay Chai or White Tea with honey. And of course, washing all of this down with a glass of Ruinart Rose hardly goes amiss.
