In the middle of the hustle and bustle of Istanbul’s premier square, Taksim, and its main shopping street, yet tucked away so that you would never guess at the razzmatazz just mere minutes away from it all, is the delightful boutique hotel Corinne.
Istanbul is, of course, a city that never sleeps. Arrive at Taksim any time of day or night and your senses would be overwhelmed with sound, smell and colour: street vendors, buskers, bar and restaurant greeters touting for clients, late night grills and patisseries, the bass thump of several night spots…
Corinne is tucked away in a side street and is blissfully quiet. Its corner bar, with pretty pavement tables, is well-frequented and safe, but the piece de resistence is the breakfast garden.
One comes to expect a delicious buffet in Istanbul and this one does not disappoint. Laden with fresh and dried fruit, smoked salmon and every manner of local delicacy, it delights the palate and allows you to start the day energised for all this unique city has to offer.
The rooms are pretty too – ours overlooked a quiet residential street and its marble-clad interior could give a run for its money to any 5 star hotel.
Best of all was the welcome smile of the resident manager at the start of each day and the discreet, unobtrusive service.
A real gem of a find in a city that is dynamic to the point of restlessness!
