Budapest is rather like entering a time capsule:  corridor coach trains transport you to the city centre; the National Gallop in Heroes’ Square is a matter of national pride; street festivals immerse you into the heart of Hungarian culture, and by night hoards of people gather outside the opera house to listen to the Philharmonic Orchestra on screens that illuminate the street, which is heaving with a melting pot of tourists and locals alike – chatting, eating, laughing; the city is alive.

corinthiaThe Corinthia Budapest , the grand dame of the city, has managed to re-create the ‘authentic’ vibe fused with the luxuries of a modern 5 star hotel, leaving little to be desired. Located on Elizabeth Boulevard, its proximity to the center, myriad shopping streets and Buda, this hotel is the premier choice for your adventures.

Of palatial proportions, and a grandeur to match, the Corinthia Budapest is spread across three buildings and several levels, with soft Matisse-esque art lining the corridors. The rooms are spacious and overlook either the serene interior courtyard or the Elizabeth Boulevard outside. All-marble bathrooms spoil you, offering a separate bathtub and shower, with plush bathrobes ready to envelop you.

And talk of pampering!
State-of-the-art swimming facilities and spa are a must visit. Echoing the design of ‘the baths’, for which Budapest is famous (dubbed “City of Spas” in 1934, the city boasts more thermal and water springs than any other city in the world), the fantastical interior transports you to a world of calm and salubrious promises. We loved the pool and jacuzzi – both at optimum temperatures, and with minimal amounts of chlorine. An array of saunas and steam rooms, too, beckon you to partake of their invigorating properties.

corinthiaRoyalSpaBuda980x330webAfter having paddled a little, and tried at least one of the delightful treatments on offer, make your way to the famed Rickshaw restaurant. Although we did not wine and dine here (but you should as Hungarian wines are undoubtedly some of the finest in the world), if breakfast was anything to go by, it is an experience not to be missed.

corinthia3Breakfast, served in the lively brasserie and atrium presents a smorgasbord of delights. The expansive buffet, laden with both Continental choices and also traditional Hungarian fare is a veritable feast for the eyes and stomach.

We also recommend upgrading to the executive level. The executive lounge has numerous perks (privacy, complimentary meals and drinks at various times of the day, and an incredibly fine level of staff service) but its most salient point, perhaps, is the view it commands over both the busy Boulevard outside and the animated lobby of the hotel.
