Cannes’ coolest hotel

Hotel Front (5)

It comes as no surprise that a hotel owned by Donna Bertarelli would be totally fabulous.

To those who are unaware of this fact, the Five Seas is a dream. Those who are aware of this would have likely had a similar spectacular experience at the Grand Hotel Park in Gstaad.

The Five Seas Cannes is the ultimate concept hotel. Designed to inspire the voyage immobil, attention to detail is paramount. The name is a reference to the five senses (and five continents) and it is with this theme in mind that the hotel offers a sensual experience.

How, you may ask, is this done? Let us take you on a literary journey to try and explain.

Lobby (1)

  1. Vision

The hotel is a veritable labyrinth of ultra-cool art. On the ground floor, silk screens designed by Gérard Trémolet and Petra Tlapova adorn the outskirts of the lounge area. Velvet-clad lounge chairs (and we use the word lounge because they are super comfortable) in a symphony of red and black are scattered around the room, juxtaposed with plush sofas. Soft colours such as the cote d’azur blue columns and array of porcelain vases (from all over the world, nonetheless, catering to the ‘citizen of the world’ and multi-cultural hub that is Cannes) blend together to create a sense of harmony.

  1. Smell

Perhaps the easiest to discern: the ubiquitous scent of Eau de Bois Secret perforates the entire hotel; from the moment you enter off the cobbled streets of Cannes into the reception, to your room, the delicious fragrance lightly scents the air around you, giving your experience a touch of the sublime.

Terrace Suite - Master Bedroom (1)

  1. Touch

To compliment the visual sensation that is presented, choice materials have been used generously throughout the hotel. Velvety sofas entice the guest to smooth their hands along them; the leather, Louis-Vuitton inspired, trunk-style closets are fantastically textured; the beds are so soft you will not want to get up in the morning….or afternoon!

Junior Suite - Bathroom

  1. Sound

From the soothing notes on the ground floor that welcome you, to the hip music on the roof top bar and pool area (where DJs vie to play in the summer), you are constantly surrounded by sound, but in an unobtrusive manner – one that is soothing. Visit the spa, for example, and you will be transported into tranquillity…..an oasis of white walls, with soothing music that seems to echo the waves heard from La Croisette (and TV videos to match) the spa is the place to go for total relaxation and escape.

  1. Taste

Perhaps best explored in our article about the 1 Michelin-star Sea Sens restaurant. It goes without saying that taste has been delicately curated. From the bespoke petit-dejeuner enjoyed on the terrace – there is a buffet and a la carte to cater to your taste buds’ desire – to the exotic restaurant and brasserie, you will be fully invigorated, surprised, tantalised….

The rooms

The rooms merit a paragraph in their own right. All with a minimum space of 40sqm, the standard rooms are vast and easy to use. A design feat in their own right, we like the stylish trunk-style closets, the super soft and enveloping beds, the all-in-one desk and chair ensemble that maximises space, the snazzy showers (with screens that hide or sensuously reveal the lucky showeree) – every single element is just so….well designed with an ease of utility incorporated.

Terrace Suite - Master Bedroom (1)

And if you are lucky enough to take the presidential suite for a night or longer, well, then, you are in for a real treat. The presidential suite (and larger suites) are HUGE for a boutique hotel. The presidential suite is super stylish, with ample entertaining space and an impressive balcony with an enviable view (and Jacuzzi) of Cannes’ skyline. Definitely an indulgence, but one that is worth every penny.

It is the attention to detail – from the quality of the leather decorating the closets and lifts, the symphonic ‘rouge et noir’ theme reappearing throughout the hotel, the subtle scents that greet you….this a hotel that is a firm landmark on the Cannes hotel map. A boutique fit enough to rival the grand dames (think the InterContinental Cannes, Hyatt Martinez) and then some, you’re missing out if you don’t stay at the Five Seas Cannes.
