Formerly known as The Belfry in its past life, Mosimann’s has been for the past 25-odd years the eponymous institution set up by Anton Mossiman. mosimanns

On one of the most prominent stretches of Knightsbridge, this restaurant-club caters to both domestic and foreign clientele in a warm, ambient setting. Retaining some of its former characteristics as a Presbyterian church built in 1830, the club has some astounding private dining rooms, as well as a large downstairs dining area. The interior is elegant and stylish – right down to the boudoirs, which could tempt you to adopt this club as a home-away-from-home.

The wine list is extensive and impressive and will leave you spoilt for choice. We started with the Laurent-Perrier rose champagne, the best of the best, in the mezzanine bar upstairs, where couples held discrete tête-à-têtes.

Moving down to the main dining area, our oenolophilic group continued our wine odyssey with the Château Angelus, Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, 2005, a superb lively wine with layers of forest fruit notes and a velvety finish.

The a la carte menu seems almost threadbare but with good reason: the standard of perfection of each course means that whatever you choose will be more than satisfactory. We all opted for steak tartare as a main, with cadences of spice according to our palate. 10/10 for presentation – the rotonde portions of meat were perfectly poised on the plate with an array of spices on the side for you to craft your own taste. Succulent, moreish and above all fresh, this dish is one of the best steak tartares we’ve ever had in London and no wonder it is a ‘Mossiman Speciality‘ and best-seller.

The more adventurous of our group went on to try dessert – a fluffy, textured, passion fruit souffle, while the rest of us drank our post-meal coffees and teas.

Special mention goes to the affable and efficient staff.

This is definitely the club to join if you entertain regularly – either for business or socially.
