This ultra-modern, super stylish villa combines the best of two worlds. At one and the same time a private residence and a hotel, you are treated to an ‘at home with butler service’ way of living. A laissez-faire attitude perforates the air, allowing guests to feel at home and to move around with ease and comfort.
In fact, the doors to the villa remain open throughout the day, with the spring air seeping through as if to reiterate the open nature policy of it all. And yet, if you need anything the kind hosts are always on hand.
The villa itself is chic and minimalist, and yet warm and homely. We commend the owners on the taste and elegance with which they have decorated it. Blue and white are the prevalent themes throughout – a salute to the sparkling cote d’azur which can be seen from the sweeping views one has on the terrace. Contemporary art is juxtaposed against a traditional décor – the villa is stylish and upbeat but also traditional with all the trappings of home – a beautiful wooden piano, supple leather lounging sofas, soft, soporific beds…
The en-suite rooms are light and airy, with enviably plush beds. It really is the epitome of a ‘chambre’ or room; the beautiful essence of Villa St. Maxime is the fluidity between rooms and the ‘salon’ or living areas.
It is an absolute joy to walk around the house and onto the terrace and be left to your own devices, without the intrusive and ironically uncomfortable overt obsequiousness that is often experienced in luxury hotels.
The views from the villa are, without a doubt, the best in St. Paul de Vence. All-encompassing, the horizon line is a blend of sea and greenery – a Mediterranean delight. And the best part? It can be enjoyed from the comfort of the calm terrace, cool blue pool or beautifully manicured garden.
Villa owners John and Ann seem intent on making your stay an unforgettable one. Complimentary aperitifs are from 7pm-8pm, allowing for guests to casually mingle and get to know their hosts. A now-famous champagne breakfast is served on the terrace or inside – eggs cooked to your preference, a range of coffee and tea and of course, champagne!
Thirsty during the day? Not a problem. The villa operates an honesty policy whereby you serve yourself from the kitchen.
